DocuBay original, an investigative docu-series Hathras – 16 Days, based on the 2020 Hathras rape case that triggered outrage across the India, is available to stream on ZEE5 globally.
Directed by Patrick Graham, the series explores the 16 days following the death of a young Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district. The documentary looks at issues such as caste discrimination, gender violence, institutional silence and media pressure that emerged during the case.
The series follows journalist Tanushree Pandey and her investigation into the case, highlighting the challenges she faced while reporting on the incident. The documentary includes first-hand testimonies, archival footage, on-ground reporting and interviews with journalists, activists, police officials and policymakers. The series also gives a glimpse into the events that unfolded after the assault and the nationwide debate that followed.
